Scott asked: "why does it say "newbie" under my icon? (it used to say stranger) where does that come from? who decides? is it an evil plot?"

That is your "Title." It is automatically assigned to you based on the number of posts you have made. We can change the Titles to anything we want, as well as change the number of posts required to earn a title. Perhaps we should come up with some titles that better reflect Astoria and the AVA. Here are the current default settings:

Min Posts / Title

0 - stranger
25 - newbie
50 - journeyman
100 - member
200 - enthusiast
400 - addict
700 - old hand
1200 - veteran
1600 - Pooh-Bah
2500 - Carpal Tunnel

I have also made it possible for everyone to change their title to a custom one in their "My Stuff > My Profile" settings. It should be located above the birthday info.

There's a word for that kind of behavior. It's called "post-whoring"... ;\)

Can't you just change it in your custom title box, under "My Profile"?

No, because that says "tiresian visionary" already, and I am all clevered out. But I can make my eyes wiggle and sing the Australian Philosopher's song at the same time.

Sincerely Yours,

Postwhore

Hmm... I tried to edit your "newbie" out, but I couldn't. It must be in a separate line/field, so maybe we should come up with some fun titles to replace the default ones. Maybe we should come up with a hierarchal list of famous artists/writers from Montparnasse and use those instead. So you might start out as Utrillo and then be Soutine, move on to Modigliani, and then to Picasso...

I don't know. Someone give me some ideas here. Work with me, people...

Sounds good - as long as you end with Duchamp at the absolute pinnacle. If not, I come out throwing elbows.

And as you can see the newbie label will soon be gone as I have been quite prolific, or potwhoric, if you prefer.

I promise, I'll go away soon.

Duchamp!? I throw a box of Barilla elbo macaroni in your general direction...

It's Picasso, or bust! ;\)

PS: Don't mind the post-whoring; we're breaking in the board; it's a good thing! \:D

burnncorn.jpg Well, as I was saying, Duchamp really deserves the top ranking over Pablo, as he is not only MY personal favorite, his "fountain" was voted greatest/most influential artwork of the century in a survey of top art experts, and after all it is a British survey, and how could they be wrong with those amazing English accents and all? Yes, that means that they considered Guernica, etcetera, and found them lacking. Sorry, it's Duchamp. Don't make me bring over the herring for the fish-slapping dance.
