David Lee Myers - I photograph Columbia River Skies (recent Views From Home exhibit), coastal rainforests, butterflies, and more pleasures. Why? To share comfort and joy in the world, to share loving it, commiting to it, and caring for it.

In 1963 I went to the University of California expecting to become a
scientist. Inspired by an Ansel Adams book, I also studied fine arts
photography with Dave Bohn and Roger Minick, and left Berkeley with
degrees in mathematics and an abiding love and commitment to photography.
In 1970, following the romance of the “back to the land” movement, I settled
in very rural Washington near Astoria. Today I work as an independent artist
and teach photography in the visual arts at Clatsop Community College. I
enjoy teaching workshops and giving presentations, especially those where
art joins natural history.

I have been photographing Pacific Northwest landscapes and natural
history for over 35 years, during which I’ve lived in the Columbia Pacific
region.

I also am a founding member of Con Amici Chamber Players, performing
violin and viola in classical music concerts and events. Some of my love of
music shows up in photographs!

"I now know what my next step is: to take a photography class with you as the instructor. This is amazing, beautiful work that captures the elegance of creation and honors it. Thank you for sharing your talent."

--Angela Baumgartner
"Beautiful work! "Returning To Dust" is a daring picture--I've never seen any other photograph quite like it. It respects the cycle of life and death while centered on a very popular icon of "aliveness": butterflies with their color and flight. It's moving to be given the whole picture--greying as well as colorful, dying as well as living. "

--Carolyn Dunn
"Your work, some shown here, was such a strong element in the recent "Spirit of the River" show for Columbia Riverkeeper. Very thoughtful, heart-felt. Thank you."

--Joe Webb
