Arts Night Out in Astoria Lights Up the Night on November 15th!

Astoria's art galleries are throwing an art extravaganza and everyone's invited! Yes, once again, it's time for Arts Night Out in Astoria. Head into town Saturday evening, November 15th for a fun gallery tour and discover an amazing variety of art, including sculpture, jewelry, paintings, photography, collage and more by both established and emerging artists.

Three times a year, this popular event draws art lovers from around the Northwest and offers everyone a chance to spend a festive evening on the town, tour art openings, chat with artists, and delight in live music and catered treats. Four hours, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, are devoted to the event, so there's plenty of time to gather friends together and take in the gallery scene. All participating art retailers are featuring new exhibits, and some offer demonstrations of art techniques. Most of the featured artists will be present to discuss their work.

Twelve downtown businesses, each an arts destination in its own right, will present new art exhibits: Art Here Now Gallery, Astoria Fine Art Gallery, Astoria Coffeehouse, AVA Gallery, Finn Ware, Holly McHone Jewelry, Lunar Boy Gallery, Michael's Antiques, Paint 'N the Town Red Gallery, Old Town Framing, redhare, and RiverSea Gallery.

Anyone attending Arts Night Out in Astoria is invited to enter a drawing to win door prizes offered by several local businesses. Prizes include a one night stay at the Hotel Elliott in a fifth floor Premium Suite, as well as gift certificates from Fulio's Pastaria & Tuscan Steakhouse, Gunderson's Cannery Cafe, and The Schooner on Twelfth.

Arts Night Out in Astoria is designed to showcase local galleries and retail businesses where original artwork can regularly be viewed and purchased. The event is coordinated by the Astoria Gallery Association (AGA) and Astoria Visual Arts (AVA), a non-profit arts organization. The Bank of Astoria has generously sponsored the entire 2008 season.

Scott Reuter of Astoria Visual Arts Center is one of many gallery people who have worked hard to coordinate the event, but he emphasized that it could not happen without sponsorship. "All of the Astoria Gallery Association members wish to thank Bank of Astoria for their generous sponsorship of all three Arts Night Out in Astoria events in 2008," he declared. "And we are thrilled to hear that they wish to continue their support for the 2009 season."

Scott Docherty, owner of redhare on 10th street, volunteers time to promote the event. "As a new gallery owner, Arts Night Out in Astoria provides a wonderful, festive way to introduce myself and my gallery to all my neighbors, and for me to get to know them," he proclaimed. "It is one of the many great things that are making Astoria a desired destination for art lovers from everywhere!"

The volunteer group is also appreciative of those businesses who donate gift certificates for door prizes. The Hotel Elliott has committed to donating an overnight stay as a door prize for each Arts Night Out in Astoria event in perpetuity. Hotel owner, Chester Trabucco, said, "We really love this event. It's always exciting, and a great draw for our clientele. It brings lots of people to town and adds to our sense of community."

Take part in one of Astoria's most exciting cultural events. Pick up a map at any participating venue, call a few friends, design your own art walk, and make the scene on Saturday night, November 15th.
