Arts Night Out in Astoria for June 2008: The Art of Jazz, An Art and Music Extravaganza
Gather your friends and head to downtown Astoria on Saturday, June 14th for Arts Night out in Astoria: the Art of Jazz, a city-wide art and music extravaganza encompassing a gallery walk, a jazz concert at the Liberty Theater and jazz musicians playing in some of the galleries. Each participating art venue will present a new art exhibit or a hands-on demonstration of an art technique. This is a chance to discover art to the beat of live music and celebrate the night.
Three times yearly, Arts Night Out in Astoria offers everyone a chance to spend a festive evening on the town and delight in the incredible variety of artwork available locally. Since 2002, the event has promoted Astoria as a premier arts destination by showcasing local galleries and retail businesses where original art can regularly be purchased. Collectors will find works by prominent artists, as well as discover art by those just emerging or little-known in the region.
As a special addition to the art walk for this summer event, the Columbia Memorial Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a jazz concert at The Liberty Theater featuring the Tony Pacini Trio from Portland. The concert begins at 8:30 pm, and tickets may be purchased at The Liberty Box Office 503-325-5922, Ext 55, or through Ticketswest, 1-800-992-8499.
The evening art walk takes place from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at thirteen arts destination businesses throughout the downtown, and many of the venues will feature jazz musicians during that time. Participating businesses are: Astoria Coffeehouse, Astoria Fine Art Gallery, Astoria Visual Arts Center, Dots 'N Doodles Art Supply, Holly McHone Jewelry, Homespun Quilts, Jonathon's Ltd., Lunar Boy Gallery, Michael's Antiques, Old Town Framing, Paint 'N The Town Red Gallery, Red Hare Gallery, and RiverSea Gallery.
To add to the festivities, anyone attending Arts Night Out in Astoria can enter a door-prize drawing at any participating art business. Prizes include a one night stay at the Hotel Elliott, as well as gift certificates from Bridgewater Bistro, Clemente's and Fulio's Pastaria. Arts Night Out in Astoria is generously sponsored throughout 2008 by the Bank of Astoria.
Pick up an event map at any participating business, or download one from the Astoria Visual Arts website. Call a few friends and design your own art walk. Indulge in art to the beat of live music, and make the scene at one of Astoria's most exciting cultural events on Saturday night, June 14th.
